Vettel takes pole in Bahrain Grand Prix - Outshines Schumacher

News Sunday 13th March 2010 By Geoff Meyer

Sebastien Vettel has taken pole for the first Formula One Grand Prix of the season, held in Bahrain. The German finished ahead of Ferrari duo Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso. F1 legend Michael Schumacher was seventh fastest.

A big surprise. Winter testing we didn't know where it was, it was clear four teams would be strong. On Friday it was tough and everyone was keen to get started this morning. I knew we had a great car but first you have to get it together. Obviously we are very happy to be on pole. The last month a lot of testing in a short time and our team didn't get much sleep.

Massa

Congratulations to Sebastien on his pole. It's nice to be back and I am really happy after such a dificult time watching the races on television. Now every time I am in the car everything is great. This is a good start to the season. There is always a great feeling for the team with such a start. I am positive and to start second and third for the team is great and we see how the race is tomorrow. For sure Red Bull are very strong and also other teams.

Alonso

With such a long lap here and the tough conditions, which is very warm the times depend on the lap you do. Our point of view is good the race is tomorrow and everything is great and winter testing went good and we have a good strong car. To be second and third on the grid really tells us something.
